About
Dive in. For a moment, everything disappears and you're wrapped in a bubble that drowns out the noise. That’s Champagne Weather.
Champagne Weather is bold, immersive new music from Canadian Folk Music Award-winners and JUNO nominees James Hill and Anne Janelle. Both artists have one foot in folk music and the other in contemporary classical. Champagne Weather finds them artfully bridging these two worlds with a sound that evokes Philip Glass and Steve Reich even as it harks back to Appalachian fiddle and English folksong.
The Champagne Weather sound is chaotic by design. Listen close and you'll hear the recipe: two string motifs entwining and slowly changing, creating serendipitous harmony that no one can predict — not even the musicians. Lyrical melodies float over this shimmering backdrop, balanced by lo-fi synth tones. It's music that sounds like a city: chaotic when you look to close, beautiful and shiny when you see it from a distance.
It's strange and beautiful music for strange and beautiful times.
